A little progress

Finally got a chance to put a little more time into the boat. I fixed my mistakes and finished the first panel. Glassed the second side of the next two panels I'll have to wait until tomorrow to do any more. Perhaps today is the day I'll get out on the water in my other boats? Why not? Going paddling :)

Oops.

Checked out the butt seams and something went wrong. Had to redo three of them. I carefully cut them, sanded down to wood and reglassed them. The keel was fine so I flipped it over and glassed the other side. Will check it all tomorrow.

Started

Cleaned out the garage today and hung a worklight then moved the table away from the wall so I could have access to both sides. After rereading the instructions and sorting the panels I started on the right side keel butt seams. After glassing three panels, I had a bit of left over epoxy so I quickly laid out panel 4R and glassed the seams on it. Mylar, boards and bricks in place for overnight curing.

I guess I'm building a boat!

Pictures soon.

Arrival

After moving to a new home, I decided to give myself a present I've thought about for several years, a kayak kit. Considering my size and experience,  the Pygmy Boats Borialis XL seems like the perfect boat for me. I ordered the kit along with several accessories last week and they arrived today.

I'll be posting the build process from now on. The first step was building a work surface. I bought a sheet of MDX and had it cut in half I then mounted 2x4s under the nasty side to stiffen it. It seems like a reasonable height to work with.

All I've done so far is open the boxes and find the instructions.  I will read them until I understand each step before I pick up another tool.

Wish me luck.
